Now Is the Time to Visit as Anegada has Fully Recovered from Irma & Maria!
Anegada was fortunate in that it escaped the full force of Irma and Maria. As a result, most hotels and beach bars have made the necessary repairs and are now open for business. This season is a great time to visit Anegada with dozens of secluded beaches, including Loblolly Bay and Cow Wreck Beach. The island is also home to flamingos, rock iguanas, and rare plant species like sea lavender. Offshore, Horseshoe Reef is rich in marine life and dotted with shipwrecks.
Here’s the current list of who’s open as of January 18th, 2018:
Hotels, resorts, and villas on Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and the smaller islands in the British Virgin Islands were hit hard by Irma. Most, however, have vowed to rebuild, and many such as the Sugar Mill Hotel are now open. Myetts is open and has indicated they will be ready in time for the upcoming season. Other resorts, most notably, The Bitter End Yacht Club and Peter Island Resort have announced that they will not be operational this season.
Scrub Island Resort Invites Everyone to Come to Ashore! Their Marina, Restaurant, and Market are Now Open! February 22, 2018
Scrub Island Resort just posted the following update on their blog. They said, “Since hurricanes, Irma and Maria hit in September, the resort has been in major cleanup mode. It took a Herculean effort to clear the landscape, remove debris from our beaches, and begin the repairs. The lion’s share of the work was completed by our employees who were delighted to get back to work and be a part of the progress. It was amazing to see how well our buildings survived the storms. While there were a few cases of roof damage and broken windows, Marina Village and our villas are looking great! Our open-air restaurant, Tierra! Tierra!, was structurally damaged, but that is the only part of the resort that will need to be rebuilt.”
From Myetts in Cane Garden Bay to the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke to Brandywine Estate in the East End, the BVI boasts some of the best restaurants and beach bars in the Caribbean. Many of the British Virgin Islands’ restaurants are now open or plan to reopen soon for tourists both on land and at sea.

Liz Henderson, one of the owners of Hendo’s Hideout, a bar, and restaurant on White Bay, Jost Van Dyke, wants to get the word out that they are up and running. Hendo’s was open only for about a year and a half before the storms hit this September. According to Liz, they sustained quite a bit of damage, but are now happy to report that they are open for business. In addition, Liz said, “Our first Sunday Fish Fry has officially kicked off! Fresh locally caught snapper and a few sushi rolls to boot!
Quick as a Fox and with a Twinkle in His Eye, Foxy Reopens on JVD! February 14, 2018
After unbelievable destruction to his bar and all of Jost Van Dyke, Foxy has worked to quickly get the world-famous Foxy’s Tamarind Bar open for business. Foxy has been on-site constantly, encouraging everyone with his positive songs and spirit!
Recently on his Facebook page, Foxy said, “The roof is still patchy, there is still random debris. The new “floating dock” makes drunken dinghy rides home a wee bit of a challenge. But we are getting stronger every day. Hope you’re coming to see us soon!” Foxy’s held their first Famous Friday Beach BBQ of the 2017/2018 season. Rumor has it there were juicy ribs, grilled chicken, mahi mahi, and oh that pasta salad to enjoy! Not to mention lots of rum, jokes by Foxy, and shakin’ your thing on the dance floor. Foxy says, “Come one, come all to Foxy’s. Even Irmaria can’t hold us back!”
