Necker Island British Virgin Islands is an idyllic, privately owned island in the British Virgin Islands. Located just north of Virgin Gorda. It was uninhabited until the late 20th century. In 1979, Sir Richard Branson acquired Necker Island.
At the time the BVI government imposed the restriction that a resort must be built there within 4 years. Or the island would revert back to the state. Three years and about $100 million later, the resort was complete.
Picture Paradise and you’ll see Necker Island. Sir Richard also owns the sister island, Moskito. And although you must be a guest to set foot on the island, you can certainly enjoy all that the surrounding sea has to offer.
Since Hurricane Irma devastated the island in 2017 it has been totally rebuilt. After a more than a 2 year closure, Necker Island made several environmental improvements. The island is now capable of operating on 80% renewable energy. All due to 1232 solar panels and three wind turbines. This in addition to all new accommodations, who are truly magnificent. A brand-new addition is the Bali Hi complex, situated in the middle of the island with a large private pool.
You can book the entire 74 acre island exclusively year around. That is you, your favorite friends and family members. However during “Celebration Weeks”, a selected few weeks during the year, you can book individual rooms. Since the resort is limited to 40 guests, plus 6 children, you will not share this exclusive resort with many. Your most prominent companions might just be tortoises, flamingos, iguanas, lemurs and ibises.
To get to Necker Island you can fly into Tortola. The transfer to and from Necker Island is included in the rate. Some of the most popular ways to arrive are by private yacht, helicopter, or private jet. Guests will then transfer by boat to the island.
If you prefer an untraditional appetizer or light lunch, the Beach Pool should be your destination. Where a floating kayak filled with ice and decorated with tropical flowers offers delectable sushi and sashimi. You might never want to leave Necker Island.
For lunch or dinner, Turtle Beach is a great option. Or you might prefer dining right on the beach at the Beach Pavilion.
Enjoy an exceptional dinner at the Great House. Each night offers a unique variety of themes. Follow the exceptional dinner with a drink from the bar and then watch the gorgeous Caribbean sun set from the roof top terrace.
Although privately owned, the beaches up to the high-water mark are open to the public. The Island is located north of North Sound, Virgin Gorda, BVI. The British Virgin Islands is a secluded spot of paradise that is available for rental. Necker Island has lots of water toys for its guest.
Tropical sun and warm trade winds make the weather conditions on Necker Island very pleasant. Rain may occur at any time, but it is often wetter in the hurricane season from June to November.
