BVISAIL
“You Make the Memories, We’ll Make the Arrangements”

Visit Little Thatch Island on your British Virgin Islands Yacht Charter. It is a delightful, 54-acre privately owned island with a resort. The island is located less than 500 yards from the western end of Tortola. It’s also less than a mile from Saint John, United States Virgin Islands.

Currently, the owners of Otterbox own Little Thatch. It is next to Great Thatch Island, a part of the BVI national parks. The island is believed to take its name from the famous pirate Edward Teach (better known as “Blackbeard”), although there is little evidence Blackbeard ever sailed in the Virgin Islands.

Weather

The weather on Little Thatch Island is typical of paradise — warm and sunny. However, at times the temperatures can get rather hot and humid so it is important to stay well-hydrated.

Places to See and Things to Do

  • Beach. Enjoy walking along Little Thatch Island’s golden, coconut palm-fringed beaches. Or, take advantage of the beach games your Yacht has. Sailing Catamaran BELLA VITA comes equipped with beach games as well as a nice selection of water toys.
  • Snorkel. The water surrounding Little Thatch is so clear you don’t even need a snorkel to view the amazing variety of sea life. On the southern side of the island (facing St. John), you will find a large calm, and well-protected bay that invites exploration. Diving and snorkeling around Little Thatch are superb since it is surrounded by shallow reefs. You will find bountiful black coral and angelfish.

Marinas and Anchorages

Due to strong currents and shallow reefs, it is not possible to anchor at Little Thatch Island. If you are going to anchor it has to be in over 50′ of water to be at a safe distance from the reefs.
