S/C MAJESTIC SPIRIT

I was delighted to be invited aboard the Virgin Islands catamaran charter Majestic Spirit for a broker’s lunch at this year’s BVI Boat Show in Nanny Cay, Tortola. After getting to know the crew, Dave and Desirée Bean, at last year’s show and seeing their incredible effort in the yacht hop earlier in the week, I knew I’d be in for a treat; both on and around the table.

Dave and Desirée warmly greeted me as I stepped aboard Majestic Spirit, an eight-passenger, four-cabin Royal Cape catamaran with a spacious cockpit and salon, both of which can comfortably fit ten people.

After I took my seat at the beautifully set table, Dave offered me a refreshing glass of white wine as Desirée continued busily plating our first course, an Amuse-Bouche of Ceviche Four Ways, each unique yet all representing the tastes of the Caribbean.

The appetizer course was a cool Lobster “Roll” California Style that was served over a tower of fresh zucchini and squash slices. This lobster salad had a drizzle of creamy dressing that allowed the flavor of the lobster to come through.

In preparation for the main course, I enjoyed a palate-cleansing Coconut Sorbet, which was the perfect balance of cool and creamy without being heavy. This was an especially thoughtful touch, as the entrée was a spicy Curried Chicken and Prawn Bunny Chow. Desirée explained the history behind this authentic South African dish, which was served with just enough heat so as to not overpower the flavor of the curry and was served in a hearty, homemade bread bowl just as it would be in her homeland.

For dessert, Desirée served a Peppermint Crisp Fridge Tart with Chocolate Mint Drizzle, Mint Ice Cream, and a “Springbok”. What a way to complete a meal! Following the heat of the curry dish, the homemade mint ice cream was soothing and refreshing. The fridge tart mingled a chilled, soft top layer resting on a crumbly tart. As a little energizer before continuing on with the show for the day, I was offered a “Springbok” digestif comprised of Crème de Menthe and topped with a light chocolate wafer.

It was remarkable to watch Dave and Desirée work seamlessly together while comfortably chatting with their guests, yet not missing anything in the way of service. Between the food and hospitality, this glimpse into what it would be like to be a charter guest on Majestic Spirit left me convinced that a Virgin Island charter experience with Dave and Desirée would lead to many return vacations with them.
