Introducing Captain/Chef Cassandra Contreras and Chef/Captain/Dive Instructor Jason Kuzcek.
Cassandra and Jason have been exploring together for sixteen years, and both share a love for travel, adventurous activities, cooking, diving, and being on the ocean.
Chef/Captain/Dive Instructor Jason Kuczek
Jason was born and raised exploring the Colorado Rockies. He learned early on that he was a natural explorer, having a passion for hiking, rock climbing, camping, and anything else that could keep him outdoors gathering new experiences. In his mid-teens, he spent a summer sailing and diving in the Channel Islands where he fell in love with the ocean. His high school years were spent working as a Rescue Diver and Divemaster, gaining experience working with student divers in a wide variety of environments. At 18, Jason became a scuba instructor, spending the next 7 years island hopping throughout the Caribbean, transitioning from diver to boat Captain while working in the Cayman Islands. He then returned to Colorado to manage a diving operation and travel agency in the foothills of Boulder. For the next several years, Jason guided monthly dive trips around the world, escorting groups of divers to destinations in the South Pacific, Galapagos, Caribbean, British Columbia, Australia, and Norway.
During his time in Boulder, Jason met his wife Cassandra, and together they returned to the Caribbean to dive in the Florida Keys and Bahamas. After a year of fun experiences, they returned to Colorado to finish undergraduate studies where Jason became involved in endurance and multi-sport training and nutrition. From Colorado, they moved to New Orleans to complete graduate studies while enjoying the rich culture and unique history of the city. While living in New Orleans, Jason discovered his second great passion while learning the nuances of Creole, French, and Spanish cuisine. Fresh seafood, spices, and the influences of chefs like John Besh and Emeril Lagasse sparked his imagination and taught him great respect for fresh ingredients, tradition, and the fusion of classic technique and creativity. His food will blow you away and you will not leave Pentesilea hungry!!!
Captain/Chef/ Rescue Diver Cassandra Contreras
Cassandra grew up in South Texas dancing and dreaming of the ocean. Starting out on tubes and canoes on the Texas rivers, her love for travel and the water eventually led to a U.S. Coast Guard 50-ton Masters’s license. At an early age she found herself exploring the Caribbean and by her late teens, she was a certified SCUBA diver exploring the depths of the ocean. Her love for the ocean only grew, and she relocated to the Florida Keys where she took on sailing and boating of all kinds. She immersed herself in non-profit work for years but always found time to sail, dive and feed her love of the ocean. This love of the ocean culminated when she and Jason moved to the Virgin Islands, where she has been sailing professionally for years. Between working and playing on the water, she still finds time to dance, run, get crafty and cook with Jason, her husband of ten years.
Not only does Cassandra hold a 50-ton U.S. Coast Guard Master license, but she also is a PADI rescue diver, speaks Spanish, and has a Masters’s degree from Tulane University. Taking care of her guests and showing them a good time on the islands comes second only to their comfort and safety. She looks forward to welcoming you aboard Pentesilea.
Cass and Jason are a young, energetic couple that has a ton of experience both on the water and under it. They are both Captains, both professional divers, and both chefs!!! These fun-loving, professional pairs make the perfect crew to show you around the Virgin Islands!!
