Regatta Time Abaco (RTIA) is the largest event hosted in Abaco, the Bahamas during the month of July. Over 1,000 visitors and locals attend the sailing regatta with parties held each day to celebrate the American National Holiday(4th July) and the Bahamian National Holiday (10th July). This year, the RTIA is held from the 2nd to the 10th of July.
Every year, Regatta Time Abaco in the Bahamas begins with the annual “Stranded Naked Cheeseburger Party”, a family-friendly party on Fiddle Cay’s powdery white sand beach. At this traditional event, the cook prepares 1,200 cheeseburgers, 400 pounds of fries, 400 hot dogs, 100 gallons of margaritas, and 100 gallons of rum punch. Complete with Jimmy Buffett tunes lightly playing in the background, all food, drinks, margaritas, or rum, are available for free!
On “serious days”, sailing regatta races start at 11:00 a.m. for a couple of hours of fun on the water! There are 5 days of racing:
– Race #1 is in Green Turtle then a nice ride to enjoy Treasure Cay Beach;
– Race #2 is between Treasure Cay and Great Guana Cay;
– Race #3 is in Marsh Harbour;
– Race #4 is between Marsh Harbour and Hope Town;
– Race #5 is around Hope Town.
On your in-between, lay days you can enjoy the beaches, go scuba diving snorkeling or sailing, explore local settlements, or do nothing! And of course, get ready to party every night in a different settlement with special events organized for the Regatta followers!
There is one overall objective of this regatta in the Bahamas: to have fun! So, with this objective in mind, “Dream Ketcher” will be following the 2016 Regatta in the “Mother Tub Class”, a category established for heavy displacement yachts in a full cruising configuration that does not normally compete or race competitively and does not have a spinnaker or other specialty sail. Who knows, if we got very little wind, we may end up winning a leg thanks to our 130% genoa, mainsail, and mizzen for a total of 878 sq. ft of sails! But the idea is to have fun fun fun! Guests do not need to become crew members as the minimum requirement imposes one skipper (Capt. Eric) plus one crew member (Nathalie). But as there is no maximum number of crew for the sailing regatta everybody on board is welcome to take part in each race!!!
The Regatta in the Bahamas brings the opportunity in 8 days to visit most of the Abaco Cays with excellent weather and must-go places!
“Dream Ketcher” is offering the Sailing Regatta Package rate of 8 nights
