We recently heard from Corinne and Collin, the crew of BVI catamaran charter ALIWE, on the conditions in the BVI and it’s lookin’ pretty good! Here is what chef Corinne had to say…
“Collin and I just thought we would touch base with you and tell you how our charters and the islands are doing.
We are picking up our guests in Compass Point Marina as we did last year. The main roads from the airport to Red Hook have been cleaned up, the verges cleared and mowed and the potholes are all filled, so the journey to Red Hook is better than last season :). We tend to drop off at Crown Bay Marina and accompany our guests to customs in CA, as there are no customs in St. John yet before they depart for the airport.
We are continuously surprised every time we go out at the progress made on the islands. Cinnamon, Maho, and Trunk Bays, St John has been cleaned up so mooring there on our first night is a great option. Waterlemon Cay is still a favorite stop as the snorkeling and hiking to the Sugar Mill and Manor House are great activities to offer our guests and the paths are easily accessible. The Club (alongside Pirates Bight) is open and a great stop for drinks ashore and time on the beach. We have been anchoring at White Bay on the southeast side of Peter Island. This is a lovely beach and secluded for guests who want to get away from other boats.
Peter Island Resort is not open, however, they are allowing us to use the beach in Deadman’s Bay. Cooper Island Beach Resort is due to open on April 1, but we have heard that they may be ahead of schedule. The Baths are as gorgeous as ever and our guests are enjoying the semi-exclusive use of the baths as there are way fewer people visiting this year. The Top of The Baths is open and we often walk up for a swim in the pool and a midway drink. The views from here are better than before as the vegetation is much thinner. Coco Maya is open for lunch and dinner as an option for our guests.
Leverick Bay is up and looking great. The restaurant and bar are open, the grocery store is well stocked, the clothing/gift store is re-packing its shelves and the Michael Bean show is on Mon-Wed. Another option in the North Sound is Oil Nut Bay. They have opened up to day visitors for lunch 7 days a week. We hear this may only be available until March, but it is a wonderful venue and so beautiful! All amenities are available at the resort, including water sports.
Tours on Necker Island are up and running even though they are in the throws of reconstruction – it’s still fun to see the flamingos and lemurs, etc. Tugs were removing beached boats in the North Sound last week. Anegada is great as always. We tend to only pass through Marina Cay/Trellis Bay. There are still many boats on the shore and not much reconstruction happening there yet. They only just got power last week. On most charters, we tend to stop at White Bay, Guana. This is always such an active bay with regards to marine/bird life and is beautiful too. The Bubbly Pool is a good opportunity to get off the boat and go for a good walk. Foxy’s is a good stop and White Bay is still awesome. Soggy Dollar is in full swing and they are busy planting 50 fully-grown palm trees on the beach this week.
So, all in all, the islands are still amazing, our guests are having a great time and our calendar is filling up!”
“Thank you very much for being the best crew anyone can ever have. Always worried about us, and the children, and that everyone was having a good time. I can assure you, you made it, you made our holidays, and my parent’s 40th anniversary was great! We hope we can come every year again and again to this wonderful experience in the best boat of the BVI. You are definitely the best cook and barman on the islands with the best breakfast and painkillers in the world! Despite having the surprise of having 18 guests, you never lost your smile and true service. Lots of love and hope to see you again soon! The Rullan Family (Spain)”
“We are so grateful for your hospitality and endless energy. We visited so many new places we didn’t know existed and old places seemed new to us with Colin and Corinne. Without a doubt the best vacation I have ever had! Thanks for taking such good care of my family. I’m sure you’ll be hearing from us again. Terry”
“I am tired and stuffed! The best vacation ever!! Thank you for a week filled with fun, laughs, and amazing food. Irma and Maria through us for a loop and I think the week turned out even better for it. Thanks to Collin and Corinne for your superb hosting. I could go on and on… fair winds always! Laurie”
