8 Day / 7 Night Antigua to Barbuda Sailing Itinerary

Catamaran Talaria in Antigua
Talaria

Day 1

Your catamaran, “Talaria” is docked at Jolly Harbour Marina on the South West coast of Antigua. Upon arrival, your crew will greet you with a refreshing cocktail and show you around the yacht and your cabins. We will then take her from Jolly Harbour to a nearby overnight anchorage. Here you can watch the sunset and enjoy a delicious dinner aboard.

Day 2

Following breakfast, we do a short briefing on all safety aspects and set sail past Five Islands for Deep Bay. Once anchored in Deep Bay, you can relax on the beach or take a short hike up to historic Fort Barrington. You can even snorkel on the 1905 wreck of the “Andes”- an old wood and iron carrier that caught fire after anchoring en route from Trinidad to Peru. A sumptuous lunch is served onboard before we set sail along the northern shores of Antigua. Our next stop is at Long Island, home of the exclusive Jumby Bay Resort. We will spend the night at anchor in this idyllic bay. You can take a romantic starlit stroll along the shore after dinner or relax on the trampoline or sun mattresses before retiring to your cabins.

Day 3

After breakfast, we take a short trip to Red Head Reef, where lunch will be served. You can enjoy great snorkeling, swimming, or just relaxing on board. In the afternoon, we move position over to Great Bird Island. It is a wildlife sanctuary and home to the rare and endangered Antigua Racer Snake, a non-venomous snake unique to the island. A path leads to the top of the island for a spectacular panoramic view of the bay.

After sundown, the barbeque is lit, and we will serve another delicious dinner at this stunning location. Here, the light pollution from the islands is virtually non-existent, so you can enjoy a nightcap and some amazing star gazing!

Day 4

It’s time to gently pass through the narrow reefs leading out to the Atlantic Ocean and the eastern side of Antigua. We set sail to Green Island and its many avians. These include red-billed tropicbirds, white-crowned pigeons, ospreys, night herons, and pelicans. On arrival, we will have lunch, some great snorkeling, and a chance to go ashore and generally laze around with a good book.

Day 5

After breakfast, we will start early and sail off to the west side of Barbuda, heading for Palmetto Point. It has miles and miles of pristine pale-pink beaches. The longest of these beaches is 16 miles long, and you can wander around without seeing another soul. After lunch, you can enjoy the beach and snorkel or laze around. This area is dotted with coral and teeming with every kind of fish. You also have a good chance of seeing beautiful eagle rays, often swimming in pairs.

Day 6

Today we head up to Codrington, which is the main settlement on Barbuda. There are little shops that you can look around and numerous little pubs.

Roads meander around, and you will see numerous horses and donkeys. A boat ride can also be arranged to take you to the frigate bird colony. This is a great experience where you can get up close to the birds to take pictures.

Day 7

After breakfast, we sail to English Harbour, home of Nelsons Dockyard and formerly the English naval base. You can wander around this historic site and visit the old English Bar and some interesting gift shops. A taxi can be arranged to Shirley Heights, where you can enjoy a drink and view the picturesque English Harbour while the sun sets. The day finishes by returning to your yacht for dinner.

Day 8

We set off early for Jolly Harbour and say goodbye after a fantastic week of great adventures.
