“The best place for kiteboarding I would have to say is the North Sound, right here on BEYC property, BVI. What is so special about this spot is that it is open to the North-North East trades. Meaning you get the freshest most consistent unencumbered wind. The West-East is protected by Eustatia Reef, which breaks up the swell to give us less choppy conditions. The choppier the conditions the bouncier the ride. You want about 15 knots for beginners to learn. More advanced riders will want 20+ so they can boost some big airs!!”
“What is the best time of day to ride? Well, when the wind is on, it is on. It can tend to drop off in the evening, but it can also blow through the night. BEYC has some great night kites when the full moon is out. There are other kiteboarding spots in the Caribbean but none that have the consistent wind that you get at BEYC. With that being said, I must mention Anegada, located 12 miles north of Virgin Gorda. Anegada is a very special place in the Caribbean for kiteboarding. With its’ low elevation and many beaches to launch from it makes a great place to kite. It can have butter flat water at one spot and fantastic waves at another. There is limited transportation to and from the island, making Anegada difficult to get to and so all the more special. My rule: If the wind is good at BEYC, then why go anywhere else.”
